The UN supports holding the VII Congress

Chairman of the Senate of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan Maulen Ashimbayev met with the Chairman of the 76th session of the UN General Assembly Abdullah Shahid.

Maulen Ashimbayev noted that over 30 years, strong relations have developed between Kazakhstan and the UN.
“Issues of sustainable development are given close attention by the Head of State. The national priorities of Kazakhstan are closely interconnected with the Sustainable Development Goals and the UN program up to 2030. The goals set by the Organization are integrated into our strategic documents and programs,” said Maulen Ashimbayev.

The Speaker of the Senate also informed the interlocutor about the reforms being carried out in Kazakhstan on the initiative of the President of the country Kassym-Jomart Tokayev. One of the indicators of support for the modernization agenda of the Head of State was the results of the last referendum on amendments and additions to the Constitution of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

According to Abdullah Shahid, the reforms being carried out in Kazakhstan are timely and make a significant contribution to the further development of the country and the whole society.

The interlocutors also discussed the upcoming VII Congress of Leaders of World and Traditional Religions in the capital of Kazakhstan.

Head of the Secretariat of the Congress Maulen Ashimbayev noted that among those who confirmed their participation are the heads of organizations that are part of the UN structure: the UN Alliance of Civilizations and the Inter-Parliamentary Union, it is expected that UN Secretary-General António Guterres will also make a video message within the framework of the Congress.

“Following the results of the Congress, a Declaration will be adopted. The document will contain a number of important provisions regarding the active involvement of the leaders of world and traditional religions in the process of achieving long-term stability and peace,” said Maulen Ashimbayev.

Abdullah Shahid, in turn, highly appreciated the contribution of Kazakhstan and the importance of the ongoing work for the creation and strengthening of interreligious and intercivilizational dialogue. He noted the UN support for the Congress and emphasized that the role of religious leaders at the present time is very important for the further development of the world and strengthening the culture of global dialogue.
